William Harper Obituary

William “Floyd” Harper, 76, of Abilene, KS passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center.

Memorial services with military honors will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery of Winfield. Memorial contributions in Floyd’s name may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Floyd was born on January 13, 1948 in Liberal, KS to parents William and Corrine (Bush) Harper. He graduated from Hutchinson High School before joining the Navy. On January 22, 1977 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sherry Buck, in Pratt, KS. Floyd was a Master Jeweler and ran several businesses including Karat Craft, Gold Crafter and Abilene Jewelry, he also ran Advantage Steam Cleaning for many years. Floyd was a member of the VFW, Free Masons, and senior center of Abilene. Floyd enjoyed working in his home, gardening, being self-sufficient, fishing, and traveling, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Floyd is survived by his wife, children William T. Heathman, Heather Whiteside, John Harper, Denise Meyer (Larry-Denise’s husband), William Matthew Harper, grandchildren Brittany Heathman, Hailey Heathman, Savannah Adams, Alora Harper, Alexander Harper, and Addison Whiteside, as well as his sister Luinda Hull.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marsha Mecum-Harper, George Harper, and Rocky Harper.
