Wanda Hittson Obituary

Wanda G.  Hittson, 102, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 16th at Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City.   A visitation with family and friends at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City will be from 6-8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15th. Please follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask.  Memorial donations may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home.   Online condolences may be made at www.shelleyfamilyfh.com  

Wanda was born on October 25, 1918 in Stephens County, Oklahoma the daughter of John L. and Lela Van (Sharp) Caviness.  She and her family moved to Rago, KS and she attended school there until the 5th grade then they moved to Kingman, KS.   On October 22, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jack Hittson. Wanda had 3 children, Bill, Dixie and Charlene.   In 1976, the couple moved to Arkansas City and Wanda owned a caring daycare for 30 years.  Jack preceded her in death in 2009 after 52 years of marriage.  In April of 2012, she moved to Cumbernauld Village.

Wanda also enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds.  Probably her favorite things were her grandkids, babysitting for others and her pets. Most of the children she cared for she watched from birth till they aged out of her care.  She will truly be missed by her family and friends. 

Her family includes: her daughters; Dixie Gillock of Arkansas City, Charlene and Tom  Aguinaga  of Arkansas City; her daughter-in-law, Betty LaForce of Washington; her 7 grandchildren, Mike and Lanie Gillock of Arkansas City, Michelle and Dave Howell of Augusta, KS, Robert and Deborah Gillock of New Jersey, Steve Aguinaga of Arkansas City, Zanna Groves of Arkansas City, Bill and Brandy LaForce, of Washington and Tim and Deana LaForce of Washington and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.   In addition to her husband, Jack she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Foy and Jay Caviness; sister, Lois Caviness; one grandson, Charles Gillock and one son, Bill LaForce.
