Sidney “Sid” Leroy Regnier, 81, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Friday, October 15, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Visitation will be held from 1-2 P.M. on Monday, prior to services. Sid asked that no flowers be sent and that any memorial donations be made to the Sid Regnier Scholarship Fund at Cowley County Community College, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.
Sid was born in Fairbury, NE to parents Ivan and Luella (Havlik) Regnier. He graduated from Fairbury High School and then attended the University of Nebraska, Fairbury College (now Southeastern Community College) and graduated with a B.A. in Education from Kearney State College and received his Master’s degree in teaching from Kansas State Teachers College Emporia. Sid loved education and after many years of teaching in the classroom, he became the Dean of Administration for Fairbury Junior College until he came to Cowley County Community College (“CCCC”) in 1974 where he retired as Vice President of Business Services in September 2000. Subsequent to his retirement he served on the CCCC board of trustees until 2017. While at CCCC Sid played a significant role in the campus expansion that Arkansas City experiences today. The CCCC bookstore is named after him in honor of his 26 years of service. Sid enjoyed golf, attending church services, bible study, attending Ark City high school and Oklahoma State University football games, setting up his collection of trains, and setting up the annual nativity scene in his front yard for everyone to enjoy. Sid also served on the boards of the hospital, Ark City Tumbleweeds, Vision 20/20, Tiny Teeth, Ark City United Way, and Legacy Foundation. In 2016 he was the first recipient of the Legacy Foundation’s “Spirit of Humanity” Award.
Survivors include his children: Doug Regnier, Jodi Tasior, and David (Kim) Regnier; grandchildren: Taylor Regnier, Brooke Regnier, Garth (Taylor) Regnier, Dylan (Sena Campbell) Regnier, Rebekah (Darren) Pinion, Rachel (Stephen Thomas) Keykhah, Jesaiah (Abby Wilson) Tasior and Rechah Tasior; great-grandchildren: Caiden, Peyton, Moanna, Alexis, Melissa, Kalina, Lilyana, Jace, Jesalyn, Tammy, Joanna, Braiden, Jetta and Bennet. He is also survived by his support partner Libby Moore.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law Denise Regnier and sister Joyce McCord.
