Ronald Glantz Obituary

Ronald Dean Glantz, 74, of Winfield, KS passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at William Newton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Committal services with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM at the Winfield Veterans’ Cemetery. Ron’s family invites friends to come and share memories from 5-7 PM Monday, June 12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Rivercross Hospice and the Boy Scout Troop 316, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Ron was born January 6, 1949 in Winfield, KS to parents Melvin and Sarah (Nelson) Glantz. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the Air Force serving from 1967-1971 and achieving the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged. He returned to Winfield to attend Cowley JuCo while also working at Dawson Monument.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Groene, on August 18, 1973 in Winfield. After graduating Cowley JuCo in 1974, he attended Pittsburg State University where he earned a BS in Wood Technology. Upon graduation in 1976, he worked at Ft. Smith Furniture Co as a foreman. In 1978, he returned to Winfield and co-founded Linker Plumbing, which he would later buyout and operate as Glantz Plumbing, Heating, and AC. He sold the business and retired after 41 years in 2019.

Ron was very talented in construction and woodworking and took great pride in his work, one of his favorite projects was a 5 foot oak roll top desk. He was a member of the Winfield American Legion, the NRA, H.O.G. Motorcycle group, and was a Boy Scout Troop leader. He enjoyed camping with the boy scouts and road trips on his motorcycle with Beth, especially annual trips to Sturgis. Ron was a Harley Davidson fan through and through, he loved to tease people and spend time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Glantz, son David Glantz (Meredith) of Newburgh, Indiana, grandchildren Sydney, Brylee, and Taylor, brother Lee Glantz (Susie) of Burden, sisters Donna Neely (Mike) of Olathe, and Vicky Iverson (N.M. Jr.) of Arkansas City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ron is preceded in death by his parents.
