Ronald Herbert Dubberstein, 88, of Winfield, KS passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at William Newton Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Winfield. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation from 4-6 P.M. Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions for Ron may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Winfield and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.
Ron was born in Winfield, KS November 19, 1934 the son of Herbert and Marjorie (Willey) Dubberstein. Ron was raised by his grandmother Alma (Buchring) Dubberstein and he graduated from Winfield High School in 1952. Early on Ron delivered ice and was a shoe salesman at JC Penny’s. He began working at Binney and Smith after graduating high school and retired after 40 years as a supervisor. Ron was united in marriage to Marjorie Hopkins in 1952; the couple later divorced. On August 14, 1987 Ron was united in marriage to Maggie Larewn Gillum in Las Vegas, NV. He enjoyed watching wrestling and old western movies; traveling; and food. His favorites were biscuits and gravy, and homemade ice cream. Ron loved his cars and his dogs. He was a member of the ISCA, was an associate of Darryl Starbird, and he began showing cars in 1952. Ron won well over 800 trophies and plaques with his custom cars. His favorite cars were his 1955 Chevy Exota and 1955 Chevy Knight. He was a kind and gentle man who loved talking to anyone and everyone, especially about cars.
Survivors include his wife Maggie Larewn Dubberstein; children Kim Dubberstein (Bobbie Sue), Kirk Dubberstein, Darcel Andreae, Brian Radford, Kathy Marler (Randy), Kristine Chavez (Ed), and Becci McWithey (Bill); brother Richard Dubberstein (Jeannie); as well as 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Diane Romero; and his son-in-law, Dave Andreae.
