Robert “Larry” Hammer, 76, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.  Burial will follow at Parker Cemetery.  A visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. that evening at the funeral home.   Online condolences sent to www.shelleyfamilyfh.com .  Memorials have been established in his name with the Cowley County Humane Society and Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home. 

Larry, AKA “Hammer” was born on April 11, 1943 in Wichita, KS, the son of Edmond Martin and Edith Doris Evelyn (Molton) Hammer.  He graduated from South High School in1960.   After high school, he worked for a time in the produce department at Safeway.  After that he worked with family at Central Air Conditioning in Wichita.  He married Kay Costner and to this union two children were born, Mark Douglas and Shelly Rae.  The couple later divorced.  He moved to Arkansas City and started work at LG Pike Construction as a sheet metal foreman and acquired the nickname “Tin Man”.   He met his soul mate, Dixie McGuire and the couple loved deeply.   After retirement, he enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles, being with family and friends and playing with his dog, Domino.  

His family includes: his soul mate, Dixie of the home; his children, Shelly Rae Hammer and Dixie’s son, Scott McGuire, his grandchildren, Eli Bleu Hammer Stoddard, Chloe McGuire, Sinjin McGuire, Silas McGuire, Asher McGuire and Hudson McGuire and one great-grandson, Daniel Hooley; his sister, Connie L. Hammer and his 2 nieces, Shelia Hammer and husband H.B. Burlow and Sharyl Friebus and husband Greg.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Douglas Hammer in November of 2010 and granddaughter, Savannah.
