Phyllis Starlin Obituary

Phyllis Chalea Starlin, 87, of Oxford, KS passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Oxford Christian Church, burial will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4-6 P.M. Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Oxford Funeral Service Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Education Scholarship Fund, donations may be left in the care of the Oxford Funeral Service.

Chalea was born August 23, 1934 in Winfield, KS the daughter of Wayne and Edith (Keevert) Krepps. She married Richard Lee Starlin June 13, 1955. Chalea worked at the Winfield State Hospital and at several nursing homes as a CNA. She was on many boards that included, the Oxford USD 358 Board of Education, the Sumner County Council for Aging and Site Council. Chalea was very active in her community and volunteered for many years with the Oxford After Prom (1993-2019), The Fun Barn, at the Walnut Valley Music Festival, (2000 - 2021). She was also an Oxford EMS First Responder, a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary of both Oxford and Wellington, She enjoyed sewing, going camping, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children: Steve (Colene) Starlin, Kathy Capron, Denise (Tim) Castor, and Bernice (Steve) Rucker; siblings: Ray (Janice) Krepps, and Gaye (Roger) Stumpff; grandchildren: Tina (Greg) Stout, Tim (Gale) Castor Jr., Anastasia Anthony, Travis (Shannon) Brister, Kristy (Tony) Richter,  Wendy (Nathan) Brixey, Shane (Jade) Starlin, Erik (Sarah) Capron; 21 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Chalea is preceded in death by her grandmothers Hattie (Stanley) Keevert and Stella Krepps, parents Wayne and Edith Krepps, sister Nonie Opperman, husband Richard Starlin, grandson Brad Starlin, son-in-law Larry Capron, and niece Sunni Stumpff.
