Phyllis Jean Hatfeld

Phyllis Jean Hatfield, 97, of Winfield, KS passed away peacefully Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Cumbernauld Village.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Private burial will take place at the Belle Plaine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and the Cowley County Humane Society, donations may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.

Phyllis was born June 16, 1925 in Oxford, KS the daughter of Weaver and Sallie (Bussard) Poovey. She graduated from Oxford High School and attended Wichita State University for a year. On October 9, 1946 Phyllis was united in marriage to Donald Lee Hatfield. She worked as a bookkeeper for Butler Brothers for several years and she enjoyed being a homemaker. Phyllis loved being at home, spending time outdoors, gardening, knitting, sewing, and taking care of her animals. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winfield.

Phyllis is survived by her son David Hatfield, and daughter Jane Hatfield, granddaughters Christa and Ashley Hatfield, four great-grandsons, and brother-in-law Jesse Hatfield and wife Jessie. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Waldo and Louis Poovey.
