Opal Marie (Whaley) Jones, 76, of Oxford passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Oxford Funeral Service, interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Oxford Funeral Service from 6-8 P.M. Friday, May 14th. Memorial contributions for Opal may be made to the Winfield Isle of Lights for a memorial display, contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
Opal was born in Winfield, KS June 19, 1944 the daughter of Vernon and Ardena (Veach) Whaley. She attended Winfield High School, and on February 6, 1970 she married the love of her life, Donald Neil Jones. In 1979 Opal started a career in health care at the Winfield State Hospital, she worked until its closing in 1992. She then attended Southwestern College graduating in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree, for the next 20 years she used her degree in social work to care for those in her community. Opal enjoyed sewing, fishing, gardening, woodworking, was a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid Trump supporter. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she always enjoyed decorating and going around to see light displays, especially the Winfield Isle of Lights.
Survivors include her children: Tresa Tong (Tim) of Oxford, Bill Jones (Lori) of Arkansas City, Roxanna Lewis (Bill) of Winfield and Kathleen Kennedy (Troy) of Oxford; Sister Marietta Coggins of Oxford, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Twyla Whaley and Verna Maunty, and brother Douglas Whaley.
