Monty Dean Lanning, 68, of Arkansas City, KS passed away at his home on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September, 17 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, September 15 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Cowley Humane Society, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Monty was born on January 21, 1953 in Great Bend, KS to parents Corvin Monty Lanning and Lois Mae (Conway) Lanning. He graduated from Fredericktown, MO High School in 1971, after graduating he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1976. Monty then attended Cowley County Community College for a criminal justice degree while working in the oil fields of Arkansas City. On November 8, 1997 he was united in marriage to Catherine Lavoie in Arkansas City, where they made their home. Monty worked at GE for 35 years as an inspector/ mechanic and was proud of his union IUE/CWA local 1004. Monty enjoyed racing cars with his buddy Kevin Legleiter, kayaking, camping, horses, boating, riding razors, and anything that was outdoors. Monty also dearly loved his dogs, his country and being a very proud Papaw to his 5 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Catherine, his children Meghann Lanning Holzbauer (Riley), Kyndel Lanning Burk (Jeremy) and Robert Eickleberry (Amy); grandchildren Rylann, Miles, Raygan, Alyson and Caitlyn; and sister Montez Fortner (Bill). Monty is preceded in death by his parents.
