Michael “Mike” Dean Chambers, 80, of Arkansas City, KS passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Ark City Presbyterian Manor.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arkansas City VFW, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Mike was born August 29, 1943 in Arkansas City, KS the son of Irvin and Dollreta (Blackshere) Chambers. He graduated from Ark City High School in 1961 and then joined the Army, he was honorably discharged after serving in the Vietnam War. On February 9, 1968, Mike was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jo Freek in Ark City. He worked at Total Refinery as an operations manager and after retiring he worked at Bumper to Bumper in parts sales. He enjoyed mechanics and was interested in trains and John Deere tractors, working on vehicles and his Polaris, tinkering in his shop, fishing, and going to the K&O Gas and Steam Engine Show. Mike was a member of the Ark City VFW.
Survivors include his wife Jo Chambers, daughter Cheri Henning (Chad), son Chris Chambers, grandchildren Taryn Payne (Hunter), Tysha Plush (Clayton), JoLynn Chambers, Maddy Chambers, great-grandchildren Sutton and one on the way, as well as sister Gayrene Chambers. Mike is preceded in death by his parents.
