Melvin Joseph Zeman, 88, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away due to COVID related illnesses on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi, St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
Melvin was born on July 30, 1932 on a farm north of Medford, Oklahoma. He graduated from Medford, Ok High School. In August of 1952 in Medford, OK, he married Joann Keller. The couple moved to Arkansas City and raised three children.
Melvin worked as a flight line mechanic at G.E. for over 30 years before he retired. In 1988 he met the love of his life, Betty Puckett. They enjoyed their Friday night VFW dinners with friends. Betty preceded him in death on December 30, 2020.
Melvin was active Mason and Shriner with the local Crescent Lodge. He was in charge of the transportation of families and children to the hospital for care.
Surviving to honor his memory are his daughter, Karen Knowles of Arkansas City, KS; his son, Lon Zeman of Ketchum, ID; his siblings, Ray Hunter and Mary Phillips both of Arkansas City; his 4 grandchildren, Joseph Zeman, Bryan Knowles, Leland Knowles and Lisa Knowles and one great-grandchild, Audrey Knowles. He was preceded in death by one son, Rod Zeman and 2 brothers, Jim Hunter and Elvin Zeman.
Family and friends of Melvin Zeman and Betty Puckett are invited to gather from 2-4 P.M. Saturday, April 24th at the Arkansas City VFW. Memorials have been established with the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
