Obituary

Mary Margaret Laingor, 87, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at home, surrounded by her family.

 Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

 Margaret was born to Albert E. and Pearl I. (Rodman) Kimsey on August 22, 1935 at her parents’ home in Arkansas City, KS. She graduated from Ark City High School in 1953. In 1955 she was united in marriage with Fred Carter Jr., with whom she had three children. The couple later divorced. Margaret married Gene Laingor in 2004; they later divorced. She was employed by Rodeo Meats and as club manager at the American Legion in Ark City for many years. She worked for more than 20 years as a rural mail carrier, a job she greatly enjoyed. She retired from the post office at age 79.  Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and traveling. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed attending the Class of ’53 reunion breakfasts twice each month. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her children Linda Boswell of Arkansas City, Scott Carter (Karen) of Bingham Farms, MI, and Debra Bailey of Arkansas City, grandchildren Dawn Warren (Bryce), Kenny Dow, Lynsey Rathbun (Joshua), Angela Lickly (Shaun), Ross Carter, Austin Trent (Rachel), Emily Alexander (Tom), Miles Carter (Rachael); great-grandchildren Devin, Landon, McKenna, Joshua, Kaden, Logan, Ally, KayDee, Tucker, Aurora, Nolan and Quentin, and great-great-grandchildren Daxx and Paceson, as well as brothers Vernon Kimsey, Don Kimsey, and Albert E. Kimsey Jr.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, great-grandsons Corbin Rathbun and Kendall Dow, and two other infant great-grandsons.
