Martha Jo McLemore

Martha Jo McLemore, 94, of Arkansas City, Kansas died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at ANEW Healthcare in Oxford, Kansas. 

She was born on October 24, 1927 in Roff, Oklahoma to Mike and Maude Dees Roff.  She was the youngest of 4 children, Denton, Mary Alice, and Era Ann, who all have preceded her in death.  She is survived by three children Jeff (Jeanne) McLemore, Melinda (Steve) Scott and JoAnn (Mike) Hermann.  She had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Martha’s life work included nursing and aviation.  She most recently was employed at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City, KS.  As nurse attire became less formal over the years, she held steadfast to her washed, starched and ironed white uniforms, complete with her nursing hat.  She cared for her patients as if they were family and built many friendships at Medicalodge East.    She also worked at Cessna, both in Wichita and Arkansas City.  Work was her livelihood, and even in her upper 80’s would mention needing to get a part-time job. 

She was a very generous person and would give you the shirt off her back if it was needed.  Christmas was her time to shine, giving everyone carefully thought-out gifts each year.  She loved to garden, with tomatoes being her top crop.  She always wanted everyone to leave with a tomato or two. 

Martha believed in God with all her heart.  She was ready to go to Heaven, and anxious to reunite with her mother and siblings.  Fly high with the angels Mom.  We love you and will miss you. 

Per her request, there will not be a viewing or service.  Her final resting place will be in Roff, Oklahoma. Arrangements are in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
