Marilyn Pereue Albright, 92, of Winfield, KS passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn asked for donations to the Cowley Co Humane Society. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Marilyn was born in Detroit, MI on January 7, 1931 to Joseph & Christine (Rodal) Pereue. She graduated from York High School in Chicago and earned an art degree from Beloit College in Wisconsin. She met Norman Albright at Beloit. They were married on New Year’s Eve 1953. They first lived at Fort Leonard Wood while Norman was in the service, but soon settled in Winfield and had two children, Julie and Jeff who both live in Winfield. Marilyn took advantage of that and was a remarkable grandmother spending lots of time with her grandchildren.
Marilyn was very artistic...always using her talents on art projects, making costumes for the kids, remodeling and redecorating her home, etc. She was especially proud of designing the home she and Norman built in 1975, the same house she called home until her death.
Marilyn was involved in a number of community organizations. Norman was a founder and coach of the Winfield Swim Club, and Marilyn taught new young swimmers and worked behind the scenes keeping stats and helping run the meets. In the early years of Winfield Community Theater, while Norman was on stage, Marilyn spent long hours creating the sets and was often found in the light booth. Marilyn served many years on the Winfield Park Board and was instrumental in the decision to put the present pool where it is today by Island Park. She was also a member of the WCC Women's Golf Assoc. For many years Marilyn and Norman played lots of tennis. After Norman's death she enjoyed pickleball and golf, playing thru her 80's. She was especially proud of her hole in one at age 89. She also enjoyed being outside and working in her gardens with her little dog Percy by her side.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her twin brother, Joe Pereue, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Thompson (Greg), son, Jeffrey Albright (Barbara), grandchildren, Gabe Thompson (Qinglan) Portland, OR, Luke Thompson (Marie) Yakima, WA, Ellen Glasgow (Braden) Tulsa, OK, Brett Albright (Sarah) Peachtree, GA, Jared Albright (Whitley) Kansas City, Mo, Joe Albright Kansas City, MO, and great-grandchildren Virginia Thompson, Valerie Thompson, Lily Albright, Elizabeth Albright, Carson Glasgow and Archer Glasgow. She was also close with her nephew, Joe Pereue, San Diego, CA and niece, Molly Ahlerich of Winfield.
