Margaret Wheeler Obituary

Margaret (Gartrell) Wheeler, 88, of Oxford, KS went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Dunamis Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions for Margaret may be made to the Dunamis Church, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

Margaret was born on August 13, 1935, in Memphis, TN the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Tipton) Gartrell. She graduated from high school in Horn Lake, MS and later earned a BA in education from Arizona State. Margaret was united in marriage to the love of her life, Eugene Wheeler, for 62 years. Margaret’s faith in the Lord was very evident in her life, she loved reading and sharing the Bible. She was an ordained preacher for over 30 years serving as Assistant Pastor of the Dunamis Church. She was involved in Child Evangelism, Women Aglow, AIGA Women in Christ, and she was a Sunday school teacher and an elementary teacher. Margaret enjoyed playing piano at church and at the Oxford nursing home, and she was passionate about ministering to children and the elderly. Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed playing dominoes, Scrabble, drawing, writing, word puzzles, bird watching, and her dog Dominion; but most of all, spending time with friends and family. She lived her life as a testimony to Jesus Christ, sharing the Gospel and blessings wherever she went. A favorite Bible verse of Margaret's is 1 John 4:16 …God is love…

Margaret is survived by her daughters: Margene Webster, Diane Banta (Jeff), Ruth Crabtree (Kevin); son Lee Wheeler (Barbara); sister Joyce Boone (Mike); brother Albert Gartrell (Ginger); grandchildren: Brity, Luke, Cody, Lacey, Stephan, Felica, William, CJ, Skyler, Matthew, Krissie, Joshua; as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, sister Carolyn Talley, niece Amanda Dennis, nephew John Herbert Gartrell, and great-great-granddaughter Leh’Lani Lolar, and grandson Andrew Banta.
