Margaret Hanna (Clapper) Collinson

Margaret Hanna Collinson, 80, of Winfield, KS passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Margaret’s family will greet friends from 10-11 A.M. at the funeral home prior to funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to National Right to Life; donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Margaret was born in Baltimore, MD on August 22, 1942 the daughter of Genung Leland Clapper and Mary Elizabeth (Hazlehurst) Clapper. She graduated from high school in Vestal, NY and later earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Syracuse University where she met her husband Pete. Margaret and Peter Collinson were united in marriage on August 8, 1964 in Vestal, NY. After marriage, the couple lived in Germany for two years, Philadelphia for two years, and Pago Pago American Samoa for two years, eventually settling in Mount Pleasant, MI.  They both retired to Winfield, KS, where her husband Pete grew up.

Margaret’s life was centered on her faith and her family. She loved being a mother and grandmother. Margaret also enjoyed leading Bible studies at her home and playing violin with the church praise team. She worked for Right to Life part-time while living in Michigan and was also a member of Aglow International.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Peter Collinson of Winfield, KS; children: Betsy (Tom) Archer of Munster, IN; Jim Collinson of Winfield, KS; and Suzy (Dan) Jurkovich of Arkansas City, KS; grandchildren John, Michael, Gillian, Megan, Joseph (Danielle), Elizabeth, Sarah, and Rachel; siblings Virginia (Bob) Brown of Cape Vincent, NY; and Rob (Terri) Clapper of Kinston, NC; and nieces and nephews: Tamara, Franklin, Eric, and Lauren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
