John Wollard Obituary

John F. Wollard, 72, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Ascension via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the Winfield Veterans’ Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 P.M. on March 30, 2022 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for John may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

 John was born April 27, 1949, in Horton, KS the son of William and Donna (Boss) Wollard. He graduated from high school in Wellington, KS with the Class of 1968, he also took courses in mechanical fundamentals and aviation structure mechanics. John joined the Marines on July 10, 1968, and served in the Vietnam War, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Vietnam Service Action Ribbon; he was honorably discharged in July 1972. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs; he happily smoked ribs, brisket, and other cuts of meat for himself and his family, he also looked forward to his ONE beer at Noon every day.

 John is survived by his son John Wollard Jr. of Arkansas City, KS; daughter Marylea Burgess and husband Gordon of Panama City Beach, FL; granddaughter Katlynn Miner of Woodward, OK; great-grandchildren Harlin and Anthony Henderson of Woodward, OK; grandson Vincent Miner of Ozark, AR; great-grandson Legend Miner of Ozark, AR; granddaughter Victoria “Tori” Burgess of Panama City Beach, FL; step-daughter Cheri Dixon and husband Ryan and their children: Abigail Feeney, husband Mykie, Christopher Warren, wife Chelsea; and step-daughter Cari Clark-husband Alvaro Alonso and their children: Alejandro and Elias Alvaro-Clark; sister Sharon Lind, brother Carl Wollard and wife Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Col. George Lind, and step-son Jeff Clark.
