Jan Kindt Obituary

Jan Jordan Kindt, 81, of Winfield, KS passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5-7 P.M. Friday, February 4, 2022. Memorial contributions for Jan may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

Jan was born in Winfield, KS November 1, 1940 the daughter of Leonard and Hazel (Peters) Jordan. She was raised in Burden, KS and enjoyed growing up on her family’s farm, doing the daily chores helped form her strong work ethic early in life. She graduated from Burden High School in 1958. Jan joined the local 4-H club at 9 years old, where she would meet the love of her life, Donald Wilson Kindt, they were married on June 15, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. The couple moved to Shreveport, LA after they were married where Don was stationed in the Air Force. They lived in Wichita and Winfield from 1962-1964, they also lived in Renton, WA from 1965-1970, after which they returned to Winfield for the remainder of their lives.

 While living in Washington Jan went to vocational college and took classes in bookkeeping, accounting, and shorthand. Jan worked several jobs in Winfield, she worked for Winfield Water Conditioning for 2 years, Edward B. Stevenson Accounting for several years, did accounting for Jim Dobbs, worked at Southwestern College for 5 years as an Accounts Payable clerk who kept the general ledger, TG&Y for 5 years in the fabric department and as a cashier, St. John’s College for 2 years as the Secretary for the Registrar and Dean of Students, and Snyder Clinic for 2 years, as a receptionist, doing the books, and assisting patients. She finished out her career teaching knitting classes at home in Winfield. Jan was a craft enthusiast and enjoyed being a part of the crafting group at Central Baptist Church; she loved knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, painting, making clothes and even her daughter’s wedding dresses. Jan loved traveling, being outdoors, and taking care of her furry friends, but her family and faith was the most important part of her life. She spent her life serving her Lord and loving and caring for others.

Jan is survived by son Keith Kindt and wife Shirley, daughter Cheri Kindt-Gonzales and husband Gary, and son Jim Kindt, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Francis Marcotte. She is preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, and brothers Lewis and Lester Jordan.
