Obituary

Gisela “Sandy” Nickell, 76, of Winfield, KS passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Her family invites friends to a celebration of life luncheon at 1:00 PM. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Island Park in Winfield. Memorial contributions for Sandy may be made to the Winfield Senior Living Community Activity Fund, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Sandy was born in Germany on July 2, 1946 the daughter of Hermann and Maria (Helbing) Lettner. She graduated from high school in Germany. Sandy was united in marriage to Clifton Nickell in Germany on August 12, 1972 and moved to the United States in the same year. She worked as a CNA for 20 years, working at the Good Samaritan Society and the Winfield Veterans’ Home. She enjoyed doing puzzle books, watching western TV shows, taking drives in the country and at Island Park, and spending time with her family.

Sandy was a loving, sweet, caring, spitfire German who will be deeply missed, especially by her husband of 54 years, Clifton Nickell, her children, Gilbert (Tammy) Ramsey, Corina (Klaus) Thurner, Lee (Candee) Nickell, Tanya (Scott) Gunter, and Stephanie (Justin) Rouch, her 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, sisters Hannelore and Marianne and several other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
