Frank Aaron Spoon, 93, of Winfield, KS passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Monday, January 9, 2023.
Private graveside services were held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions for Frank may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Frank was born in Indianola, OK on March 7, 1929, the son of Fred and Mary (Potter) Spoon. In 1951 Frank joined the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1953 from the 28th Infantry Division serving in World War II. After returning from service, Frank married the love of his life, Nina Workman, in Winfield, KS on January 11, 1953. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Frank worked for Gene Autry Ranch and SEA Cattle Company as a ranch hand, Armours Creamery, various local lumber yards, and Richardson Brothers Construction Company. Eventually, he owned and operated Spoon Construction until retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and restoring cars. Having built the family home, he took great pride in his construction and carpentry work. Frank was also a member of the Winfield VFW.
Survivors include his wife Nina Spoon, son David Spoon and wife Carman, and daughter Lisa Spoon, and granddaughters Paige Spoon, Ashley Bonner (Grant Haws), and Melissa Welborn (Guy), great-grandchildren Kalyn Bonner, Brody Bonner, Dean Welborn, and Axsel Welborn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and great-grandson Isaiah Spoon.
