Obituary

Donald Philip Franklin, 93, of Udall, KS went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Kansas Veterans’ Home. Don was a man of true integrity, he would stand for what is right under any circumstance.  For Don, everything should be done in a way that was pleasing to God.  His faith was the guiding principle for his life.  His greatest pleasure was his grandchildren, and he loved to be out in the fields with his cattle talking to God.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Gracepointe Assembly of God Church of Winfield. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. Viewing and family greeting time will be from 12-1 P.M. at the church, prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Don may be made to World Vision, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Don was born December 12, 1929 in Udall, KS the son of Philip and Myrl (Timberlake) Franklin. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1948. In 1951, Don joined the US Army and transferred into the Army Reserves in 1953 after being honorably discharged from active duty. He was united in marriage to Elaine Jo Quathamer on October 20, 1957 in Winfield, KS. Don was a farmer for most of his life, he enjoyed riding horses in his youth, shooting, reading, and watching old western movies, but his greatest hobby was his grandchildren. Don was a devout Christ follower, he loved reading his Bible, supporting Rhema Ministries and orphans in Africa.

His remaining loved ones include his sons Larry Franklin, Lyle Franklin and wife Kristine, and Leslie Franklin and wife Renee; grandchildren Felecia, Joshua, Kaleb, Joy, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Noah, Nyle, Lacey, Levi, and Shannon; great-grandchildren Brentley, Baylor, Jayden, Jexten, Shelbie, Aspen, Kaden, Sakara, Crew, and Bella; sister Ruby Adams, and brother Royal Franklin and wife Betty.
