David Kaufman Obituary

David Leland Kaufman, 64, of the Winfield, KS area, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 27, at the Winfield First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9-11 AM prior to services. Casual attire is encouraged. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Relief Fund or to Officials Against Cancer.  Donations may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Dave was born August 5, 1956 in Winfield, KS the son of Katherine (Harder) “Joan” Kaufman and Leland R. Kaufman M.D. From his early childhood days, he fell in love with sports of all kinds.  He graduated from Winfield High School in 1974, excelling in football and baseball.  He attended KU for 2 years, where he was on the baseball team, and finished his Bachelor’s degree in Business at Southwestern College where he played football. From 1977-1985 he and his brother Chris owned and operated Kaufman Sporting Goods, while sponsoring and competing on various amateur sports teams.  He then spent 36 years working for the State of Kansas DCF as a facilities manager. Dave was a high school athletic official for 41 years, officiating over 50 state tournaments in various sports, and was a member of the Greater Wichita Officials Association.

On October 25, 1996 Dave married the love of his life, Pamela Coyne Kaufman in Eureka Springs, AR. He lived on and managed the Kaufman Ranch for his entire adult life, where he raised his kids Annie and Jake.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow skiing, attending concerts, cheering on the Jayhawks, being a member of FUMC Winfield.  But most of all he enjoyed family time. Family meant everything to Dave; he treasured trips with his family and watching his kids’ activities.

Dave is survived by his wife Pamela Kaufman, daughter Annie Kaufman, son Jake Kaufman, father, brother Tony (Rene) Kaufman, sister Kathy (Mike) Martin, brother Pat (Kathleen) Kaufman, sister-in-law Jane Kaufman, and brother-in-law Pat Coyne. He is preceded in death by his mother and brother, Chris Kaufman.
