David L. Cheney

David L. Cheney, 83, of Winfield, KS died Thursday, December 22, 2022 in Wichita, KS.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 30, 2022 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society, the Winfield Lions Club, Phoenix Hospice, and the Lewy Body Dementia Association, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

David was born August 26, 1939 to Manford Carlos and Lenora Elizabeth Cheney in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Valley Center High School in 1957. He married Carolyn Joann Spencer, together they had 3 children, Tom, Judy and Susan, the couple later divorced. On April 29, 1988 he married Beverly Cameron and gained a stepson Marty Whitson.

David retired from Yellow Freight in 2002. While in Winfield he was active in the Winfield Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award, he was also active and served on the board of Meals on Wheels for many years. His wealth was in his family and many friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald. He is survived by his wife Beverly Cheney, sister Linda Snavely, children: Tom Cheney, Judy Hurley, and Susan Flores, step-son Marty Whitson; grandchildren: Jason Henry, Bryan Henry, Sarah Brecourt, Jolie DeRowen, Daniel Wright, Alyssa Rumple, Andrea Penn, Tiara Haywood, Melissa Wilson, Stephanie Wilmott, Tammy Cheney, Matthew Whitson, and Marcus Whitson, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, and niece Laura Cheney.
