Dale Russell “Russ” Vogel, 84, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away Monday, August 1st, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City, burial will follow at Parker Cemetery. No visitation has been scheduled. A memorial has been established in Dale’s name with the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be left in the care of the funeral home.
Dale was born on July 13th, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Wilfred and Marie (Svoboda) Vogel. After graduating high school, Dale served in the United States Army for three years. On June 1st, 1963 he was united in marriage to Laurel Ann Sandy, they enjoyed 57 years of marriage and Dale was Laurel’s primary caretaker for the past 15 years. Over the years he worked many jobs which included being a soil tester on oil rigs, plant manager for CFS Continental, and a truck driver. Dale loved traveling, fishing, hunting, classic cars, and collecting guns and coins.
Though Dale lived in Kansas for the past several decades, he was still a Chicagoan at heart and loved the city he grew up in, he especially loved the food and always enjoyed a trip back home or having his favorite authentic food shipped to him. Dale was known for his sense of humor and for never complaining, his hospice nurses loved him and admired his positive outlook despite all he was going through. Dale credits his childhood friend, Bill, for saving his life during a swimming accident, they remained close throughout Dale’s life. Friends and family were everything to Dale, he had a small tight-knit family that was his pride and joy.
Survivors include his son Kurt Vogel and wife Cassandra, daughter Linda Robinson and husband Trence, and son Todd Vogel; grandchildren: Christian, Christina, Marcus, Montez, Athena, James, Makayla, Abdul, Meela, Reece, Maria, Brittany, Hannah, and Gracie; sister-in-law Madelon Koerner and husband Victor, niece Kristen Koerner and nephew Scott Koerner. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Laurel Vogel, and daughter-in-law Jessica De Vera Mariano Vogel.
