Carol Smith Obituary

Carol Ann Smith, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Interment will follow services at Highland Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, January 4 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Christian Church, New Hope Fellowship and Central Baptist Church, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Carol was born to Glen and Ruthann Burgess on April 25, 1937 on the family farm located between Belle Plaine and Oxford, KS – known as Paradise Valley. Carol Ann grew up and received her education in Belle Plaine, graduating in 1955. She attended college in Enid, OK for one year before meeting the love of her life, Danny R. Smith. They were united in marriage on October 18, 1957 and they spent the next 42 years raising their three daughters – Danna, Cheryl, and Andrea and operating Smith Oil Company. Danny operated the business and Carol Ann kept the company books. Danny preceded in her death in 1999. Carol Ann enjoyed spending time with her daughters and their families, going to church, singing, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts. She also loved to play bingo.

She is survived by her children: Danna (Dave) Gowdy of Winfield, Cheryl (Richard) Brock of Winfield, and Andrea Crawford of Park City; her grandchildren who all claim to be her favorite, Joshua (Jessica) Gowdy of Rosehill, Jarret (Kayla) Gowdy of Park City, Tristin (Scott) Brock of Haysville, Carly (Sam) Brock of Winfield, Tanner (Alyssa) Brock of Wichita, Daltin Brock of Winfield, and Dakota Fisher of Park City; her sister Glenna Hatfield of Wichita; nine great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members she called her own, including her Davita family and friends. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother-in-law Bud Hatfield, and beloved granddaughter Jennifer Caruthers and great-granddaughter Briana Gowdy. Carol Ann was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
