Bonnie Jean Mountz, 97, of Winfield, KS passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Cumbernauld Village.
Private family services will be held at a later date, interment will take place at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Cumbernauld Village, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Bonnie was born to parents Frank and Margaret (Paton) Wright in Clovis, NM. The family moved to Wellington, KS shortly thereafter and Bonnie graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. She attended Oklahoma State University where she studied music and business. Being war time, she decided to stop school and work at Boeing. She enjoyed civil air control and later became a pilot. On January 27, 1945 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Garland “Salty” Mountz. The couple was stationed at Arrowhead Springs Resort in San Bernardino, CA. After WWII ended they moved back to Wellington. Bonnie enjoyed being involved in the Wellington First Presbyterian choir, helping with cub scouts and girl scouts, raising her family, and serving on the Wellington Library Board.
Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Jan Pringle and husband Jim of Arkansas City, KS; Kathleen Mountz and partner Scott Unruh of Atchison, KS; Wade Mountz and wife Charlotte of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Chris Hill, Maggie Cairns, and Scott Mountz, and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter-in-law Beverly Mountz.
