Betty Storey Obituary

Betty Kay Storey, 84, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at South Central Kansas Medical Center of Arkansas City.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.  Burial will follow at Ninnescah Cemetery, south of Udall, KS.  A visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. that evening at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established with Relay for Life of Arkansas City.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.   

Betty was born at home in rural Udall, KS on July 22, 1935 the daughter of Albert V. and Edith Elaine (Effner) Holmes.  She attended Udall High School. On March 19, 1951, she was united in marriage to Francis H. Storey in Clark County, Texas.  Betty worked at Peerless Bakery in Winfield for a time.  She retired after 32 years with Binney & Smith Crayola Factory.

Betty was a member of the Udall United Methodist Church and the Binney & Smith 25 Year Club.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, arts and crafts and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.

Her family includes her daughter, Deb Hargrove and husband Larry of Arkansas City, her son, Randy Storey and wife Rebecca of Udall, KS, her son-in-law, Wallace Deffenbaugh of Derby, KS; her sister, Allene Kistler and husband Roy of Udall, KS, her brother, Ray Stephen Holmes of Udall, KS, her grandchildren, Amy and Brent Pinion, Arkansas City, Matthew Llamas of Arkansas City, Amber Llamas and fiancé Jeremy Samson of Arkansas City, Tim Hargrove and wife Miranda of Arkansas City, Megan Voyles and husband Eric of Wichita, KS, Andrew Storey and wife Allie of Andover, KS; her great-grandchildren, Allison, Braydon and Brody Pinion, Lauren and Paige McPherson, Kelsey and Kyanna Llamas, Jamee Gigliotti, Jayda Redelman, Macie Voyles, Jace and Norah Storey.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brother, Barry Holmes, daughter, Lavonna Deffenbaugh and great-granddaughter, Lillian McPherson.
