April Berry Obituary

April Jo Ann (Shaw) Berry, age 52, of Winfield, KS, passed away January 10th, 2022 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 11th, 2022 at Central Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to her grandson, Mikyillo Hanna’s Education Fund, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

April, known as Chewy by her siblings, but best known as Aunt choo (Choo Choo) was born on March 27th,1969 in Wichita, KS to parents Wayne Shaw and Myrna Lou (Crum) King. Leland Orville King came into her life at age 13, she lived with him and her mother until she was emancipated at age 15. April graduated from Winfield High School in 1987. After graduating April started her career as a CNA/CMA, working at facilities in Cowley County until going into private home healthcare. April enjoyed spending time with her children and her beloved grandson more than anything. In April’s youth she loved sports and being outdoors, April was proud to be the first girl to play football for the Winfield Vikings. In her recent years you could see April enjoying a book by one of her favorite authors including: Nora Roberts, Cassandra Clare, and Lisa Jackson.

She also enjoyed shopping trips to Wichita with her daughters, taking her grandson to the park, or watching The Librarian, Blacklist, or Warehouse Thirteen at home with her son. April’s personal favorite tv shows and movies were The Sons of Anarchy, Locke and key, Ghost Ship and all of the Fast and Furious movies. April was a very welcoming, helping, and caring woman who loved to make others laugh and help them in their time of need. But the most important thing in her life was family, caring for her kids, nieces and nephews, brother and sisters, mother and father and even friends. April will dearly be missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leland O. King and Myrna L.(Crum) King. She is survived by her children, Lucas Reed King, Dayanarah Autumn Maraya Berry, and Araina LouAnn Berry, her grandson, Mikyillo Hank Dawesun Hanna, and her siblings, Ronda (Shaw) Thomas, Samantha (Shaw) Overbey, Chuck Shaw, and Rachael (Shaw) Leonard, as well as many nieces and nephews.
