Alvena E. (Underwood) Sloan

Alvena E. Sloan, 79, of Winfield, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Winfield Senior Living Community.

Alvena was born on August 14, 1941 to Alvin F. & Ernestine B. (Logsdon) Underwood in Winfield, KS.  She was reared in the Sedan, Cedar Vale and Grenola area.  She was educated in Cloverdale and Grenola.  Alvena was a CNA. She worked caring for multiple individuals, as well as Coleman, and on chicken farms.

Alvena married LeRoy McGlasson in February of 1960.  To this union 5 children were born. They later divorced.  She married Gary Gelvin, Sr, later divorced. She later married Ralph Sloan. Alvena enjoyed her family and friends.  She loved to play dominoes and Yahtzee, do puzzle books, read, listen to country music and dance.

Survivors include her brothers: Carrol (Donna) Underwood, Ira (Louise) Underwood, Sisters, Navella Ceynar, Nedra Colleen Martin and Emma Kelly. Sons- Louis McGlasson, Melvin (Patricia) Lutes, daughters – Debbie McGlasson, Donna Renee Ward, Stepchildren Gary Jr. (Denise) Gelvin, Teresa Page and Cindy Gelvin. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and an Aunt and Uncle.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, son Larry McGlasson, husband, Ralph Sloan.

The family will hold graveside memorial services at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Moline, KS Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, contributions may be left in the care of Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
