Thomas A. Whyde, 76, of Arkansas City, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at his home.
Thomas was born on September 21, 1942 in Arkansas City, KS, the son of Joseph Jackson and Nellie E. (McGill) Whyde. He graduated from Arkansas City High School. After high school, he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged in 1963. On October 1, 1990 in Newkirk, OK, he was united in marriage to Juanita Frances Darnell. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Thomas worked at Gordy Square and Heritage House Apartments as a maintenance manager until his retirement in 2004. Thomas enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, pulling jokes, yardwork and gardening as well as watching nature from his porch.
His family includes: his wife, Juanita of the home; his daughter, Nanette S. (Whyde) Crow and husband Tim of Newkirk and Linda Reagor O'Connors of Arkansas City; his son, Christopher Whyde of Denver, CO; his brothers, Robert Whyde of Arkansas City; his 2 grandchildren, Melissa Kennedy, Joseph O’Connors and 3 great-grandchildren, Aedyn Murphy, Matthew Davenport and Kylie Reagor. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jack and David Whyde, one sister, Dorothy Chapman and one grandson, Jason Reagor.
Cremation will take place and the family will have private services. A memorial has been established in his name with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
