Susan Rene (Upchurch) Martin

Susan Rene Martin, 50, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Burden. Burial will follow at the Burden Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 9 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Shelley Family Funeral Home- 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156 to defray funeral expenses.

Susan was born on August 26, 1968 in Mexia, Texas to loving parents Stanley Eldon and Evalyn Gale (Patterson) Upchurch. The family moved all over the country and she graduated from Northside Baptist Academy in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1986. She was united in marriage to Matthew Martin in June of 1992, the couple later divorced. Susan attended Cowley County Community College in 1989 and received her CNA license, she later received her Activity Directors Certification as well as her Restorative Nurse Certificate in 2009. She worked at the State Hospital in Winfield until its closing and then worked at Cumbernauld Village for over 10 years, as well as numerous other Nursing Homes in the area that she loved so much. After working in nursing facilities she went into private Home Health Care until present. Susan loved baking, playing piano, singing and occasionally going to the casino when she was able to. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burden, but more than anything she loved spending time with her Grandkids and doing anything that she could with them.

Surviving to honor her memory are her parents, Stanley and Evalyn Upchurch, daughter Codi Martin, son Blaine Martin and wife Chealsea, grandchildren: Chance, James and Hadley; brother Stephen Upchurch and wife B.J. as well as a special aunt and uncle Mary Farnsworth, and husband Ronald Farnsworth.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Grover and Ella Upchurch, and maternal grandparents Allen and Evalyn J. Patterson and her uncle Lowell Upchurch.
