Roberta Lois Suhler was born March 19, 1935, the daughter of Alfred and Clara (Westfahl) Tonn in Hutchinson, KS. She graduated from Haven High school and from Sterling College in 1967. Roberta was united in marriage to Robert Suhler on September 29, 1952, preceded her in 1996. Roberta was and English Teacher and a Librarian. She enjoyed playing the organ at church, canning items that she grew in her garden and sewing. Roberta was a published writer and a gifted musician, playing piano and organ throughout her school years at Haven, then for church services, weddings, funerals for 30+ years.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and sewing.  She and her husband shared a love for God's natural beauty, maintaining virgin prairie and preserving and enjoying Kansas wildlife at their Reno County farm.  As she aged she enjoyed more reading, listening to beautiful music, and learning about the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Even with limited exposure to the public, this strong Christian woman was able to share her faith with those she encountered.  She used her talents to teach others about cooking and raising a family from her wheelchair.  She showed us how to age with strength and dignity, and portrayed courage and faith in God the Father Almighty in her death.

Roberta is survived by her children: Vicki Brown (Michael) of Haven, KS, Deb Nikkel (Rod) of Hutchinson, KS, Dave Suhler (Margo) of Severance, CO, Kate Poovey (Terry) of Oxford, KS and Sara Deepe (Daniel) of Douglass, KS; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a sister Margaret Brandis of Garden Plain, KS and a sister-in-law Eloise Winkelman of Lawrence, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband and a grandson, Paul Suhler.
