Robert Adrian Escandon

Robert Adrian Escandon went home to be with the Lord he came to cherish on August 14, 2018 after a 12-week bout of cancer. He died peacefully at home under Hospice care.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, KS. Visitation will be Thursday, August 16 from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church of Wellington and Good Shepherd Hospice. Contributions can be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home, 704 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152. 

Robert was born on January 25, 1949 in London, England to Walter and Ellen (Parry) Shakery. He often spoke of growing up in post-WW2 London and playing in the bombed-out sites everywhere.

After graduating from high school, Robert earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and after time a Teaching Certificate in Mathematics. He spent his working life doing a variety of things in these fields, most especially being part owner of a successful small special purpose machinery company in with his best friend David Meakin in Moira, England. Robert also enjoyed teaching Math both in England and in the U.S. In Wellington, Robert is best known for his excellent teaching of Math to the students of Wellington High School and Cowley Community College.

Robert and his wife Marsha married on August 15, 1998 in Burton-on-Trent, England and continued to live in England for a few very happy years before deciding to come to the US.

A faithful and attentive husband, father, and grandfather, Robert leaves 4 children and 3 step-children. His children include Kester (Lynsey) Escandon, Miriam (Nick) Dann, Helen (Anthony) Murray, and Greg (Lisa) Escandon. Step children are Adam (Carmen) Hatfield, Michael (Kristen) Hatfield, and Joseph (Melissa). Robert adored his 11 grandchildren- Thomas, Barnaby, Finlay, Florence, Tristan, Austin, Alexandra, Winter, Ruby, Vincent, and Sunny- and his 11 step-grandchildren-Grey, Calli, Cooper, Ethan, Violet, Henry, Luke, Phoebe, Jacob, Kayla, and Allison. Special friends have been David and Susan Meakin, Jessica Edwards, and Jason Funderburk. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ellen Shakery.
