Nadine Tillotson Obituary

Nadine Tillotson, 92, of Winfield, KS passed away peacefully Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Cumbernauld Village.

Graveside service will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday July 11 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield, KS. Memorials may be made out to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home – 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156.

Nadine was born on Sept. 26, 1925 to Clyde and Norma (Brian) Means and raised on a farm north of Derby, KS. She graduated from Derby High School (‘43), Southwestern College (‘47) and taught Home Economics at Peabody High School. Nadine and Dwight Tillotson were married in 1948, established their home in Wichita and raised two children. They became charter members of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Nadine lived out her faith as choir member, Sunday School teacher, leader in UMW, a member of many committees and especially as kitchen coordinator. Her efforts created fellowship and relationships that enhanced the work of the church.  Nadine loved her time at Southwestern.  She always mentioned Smith Hall’s sleeping porch and cooking group meals.  Southwestern hosted Japanese American students who otherwise would have been subjected to camps at that time.  She was friends with many of them and remained in contact with them through cards and greetings. She was proud of her education and knew it strengthened her life and faith.  Her marriage to Dwight came immediately after WWll and was a journey of 69 years.  Together they met the challenges and shared the joys of raising a family.  Just recently, Nadine shared that her favorite time with Carol & Keith was singing and reading to them as they were rocked to sleep.  After their children left home Dwight and Nadine moved but only a few blocks.  Then, in 2016, when age caught up with them and they moved to Winfield.

Nadine is survived by her husband, daughter Carol Galliart (Dave), son Keith Tillotson (Roxanne), Grandchildren: Scott Galliart (Kari), Erin Packer (Lynn), Megan Wolf (Brent), Christopher Galliart, Vanessa Tillotson, Michael Tillotson (Champey), Kristin Tillotson, John Tillotson (Jenny), Benjamin Tillotson (Beth), and Heidi Cheng (Kevin). Great grandchildren: Makenzie, Kyndal, Kemper, Kira, Evan, Norah Kate, Callum, Leo, Caleb and Grace. Sisters: Joan Gedwillo, Beth Weinert, Shirley Shelley, Judy Franksen and brother Jack Means.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents and sister Lois Rose.
