His family later moved to Yates Center where he graduated from high school in 1983. In high school, Mitch played basketball and took his team to state during his Junior year; he also placed 4th in the Kansas State Golf Tournament as a Senior. Mitch’s love for golfing continued throughout his life. He attended WSU for one year on a golf scholarship and later attended Rogers State University in Claremore, OK. After college he received his PGA card and began his career working at national golf courses in the United States. He worked at Flint Hills National for 3 years and at Augusta National for 4 years before moving to Dallas National and for 18 years, at Vaquero in Westlake, Texas. . He began at Vaquero when it was being built and never left. Mitch loved being a caddy and was one of the most popular; he always knew the right club for the players to use, knew how to read their putt and enjoyed getting to spend time with the members, the celebrities and his colleagues.  Mitch was great at building relationships with everyone he came into contact. An expert storyteller, he was the resident entertainer.  He also loved his 85’ Nissan, affectionately nicknamed "TomTom" and completely restored it. He enjoyed returning to Yates Center for hunting and fishing trips with his group of lifelong friends. Mitch was a thoughtful, kind and loving man, who will be missed by all who knew him. Mitch was adored by his niece and nephews. They loved when he came home for the holidays full of stories he shared with them.
