Lee Moorman Obituary

Lee Anna Moorman, 70, of Winfield, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at her home.

A memorial service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hackney Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Hackney Baptist Church.

Born September 10, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo., she was adopted by Clifford and Harriet (Stutzman) Muret. She was raised in Winfield and attended Martha Washington and Pleasant Valley Elementary Schools. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1966 and Southwestern College in 1970.

She was married on November 28, 2008, to Wayne (Phil) Moorman.

Following college graduation, Lee lived in Tucson, Ariz., and worked in retail at a shoe store. After returning to Winfield, Lee enjoyed other retail pursuits over the years including co-owning the Greenbush seed store and maintaining space to sell antiques and her signature Pink Coyote crafts in antique marts and craft shows.

Lee spent most of her working life as a computer programmer for companies including the City of Winfield, Edward B. Stephenson, Farm Fresh and Cupid Intimates. She retired from the Kansas Turnpike Authority in 2013.

For decades, Lee worked on the Walnut Valley Festival crew, and she was close with the reentry trailer staff. She was an avid gardener with a particular love of flowers and chiles. Lee enjoyed horseback riding alone and with company. She loved the horses she owned (or who owned her!) over the years, including Dan, Katie, Joker, Feliz, Naweejah, Sunshine and Starfire. Lee traveled the country and the world, and she especially fondly remembered visiting England with her mother and New Mexico with her husband. In recent years, she grew her interest in textile arts and embroidery into a passion for quilting, making a number of quilts for special people in her life and teaching others to create their own quilts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Muret, her stepfather, M.E. Jenkins, and her mother, Harriet Muret Jenkins.

Her family includes her husband, Wayne (Phil), of the home; her brother and sister-in law, Joe and Christie Muret of Winfield; her nieces Jennifer Muret Bate (Seth Bate) of Winfield, Jessica Muret of Wichita and Sarah Muret of Winfield; great-niece, Emma Bate; great-nephew, Owen Bate; and many cousins.
