Karen Lorene (Thornburg) Bromlow, 76, of Winfield passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at William Newton Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Interment will take place at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 12 at the Kansas Veteran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, September 10 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions in Karen’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church - Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Karen was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on January 17, 1943 the daughter of Alberta (Harris) and Ted Thornburg. She graduated from high school in 1961 in Shattuck, Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, she also attended classes at the University of Kansas. Karen married her life-long partner Donald Bromlow on August 28, 1964 in Edmond, Oklahoma at Peace Lutheran Church, they enjoyed 55 years of marriage.
Her life was dedicated to helping children. She also taught elementary education in Fargo, Forgan and Red Rock, Oklahoma and in Darrouzett, Texas. She spent over 20 years as a special education teacher in Winfield and Arkansas City. Karen was the President of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, a pink lady at William Newton Hospital, and Girl Scouts were a very important part of her life, But most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband Donald, son Donald Bromlow II and wife Leah, daughter Juanita Callihan and husband Cary, son David Bromlow and wife Lisa, and daughter Katrina Tarver and husband Charlie; grandchildren: Amber (Jeremy) Horton, Cayla (Mangin) Chacon, Kristen Callihan, Dawson Bromlow, Nathan Bromlow, Carolyn Bromlow, and Kayden Tarver; great-grandchild Blakely Horton; siblings Les (Sarah) Thornburg, Pat (Glen) Smith, and Barbara Thomas. She is preceded in death by her parents.
