Frankie Delynn (Simpkins) Balch, 53, of Winfield passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, May 28 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Monday, May 27 at the funeral home. Frankie was born on April 21, 1966 in Las Vegas, NV. She joined the Navy as a Corpsman and heavy equipment operator, she earned her GED while in the service, and after being discharged Frankie completed LPN certification at the Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg, MS in 1987. She worked for the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg in the Neuro Science unit and ICU for 17 years. Frankie lived all over the country: Mississippi, California, Nevada, Colorado, Arkansas, Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Arizona, before settling in Kansas in 1999 where she began working as a night nurse for the Winfield Correctional Facility. Later on Frankie helped open the Kansas Veterans’ Home in Winfield and helped write procedure and wound care policies, she also worked at ResCare of Winfield and cared for an infant in his home until she became disabled in October of 2009.
In 1983 Frankie was united in marriage with Steven Chamiel in Hattiesburg, the couple later divorced and in 1986 she married Thomas C. Balch, also in Hattiesburg. Frankie enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, archery, firearms and being on her farm she had when her children were young, she especially enjoyed her miniature horses and donkeys, her service dog Jag and Opie the Oppossum. But most of all Frankie loved her family and spending precious time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Steven Balch and wife Heather of Laporte, TX; Miranda Parson and husband Todd of Oxford, KS; Katherine Balch of Winfield, KS; grandchildren: Crystian, Madelynn, Eric, Atley, Bethany, Sarah and Jackson; mother Sandra (Lott) Hagerman; siblings: Elizabeth Zukas, Stacie Adamek, Aaron Lott and Adam Lott; special friends Kendra Mansfield and Henry Walker. She is preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Hoke who passed in 2015, and grandchild Kinzly Balch who was stillborn in August of 2014.
