Dorothy Evelyn (Bunch) Rowan

Dorothy Evelyn (Bunch) Rowan, 89, of Wellington, passed away December 5, 2019 at Botkin Health and Rehab in Wellington, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M at the Shelley Family Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the St. John’s Lutheran Church 1030 Mission Rd, Wellington. Interment will be at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington. A memorial has been established with the St. John’s Lutheran Church and may be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home 704 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152.    

Dorothy was born February 11, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Hattie (Sinclair) Bunch in Renfro, OK. She moved to Wellington when she was 14 and graduated from Wellington High School in 1948. On June 4, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Eugene Rowan. She worked at Nichols Electric for decades from the age of 18 until the store closed. Dorothy was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wellington. She enjoyed gardening and sharing with anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of her grandchildren. Dorothy won 2nd place in the “slipper kicking contest” during the Wellington Centennial celebration in 1971.

Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren: Samuel Rowan of Baltimore, Maryland and Gabby Rowan of Baltimore, Maryland; and her sister, Lela Fowler of Blackwell, OK; niece, Mindy Evans (Stan) of Clearwater and nephews: Fred Fowler (Jan) of Houston, TX, Rick Rowan (Elaine) of Oklahoma City, OK, Dwight Rowan of Wellington, and Craig Day (Linda) of Braman, OK.

She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Gene, son, Steven E. Rowan and a brother, Vernon Bunch.
