Clayton Lee Conley, 73, of Dexter passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, July 22 at the First Southern Baptist Church of Arkansas City. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery in Reydon, Oklahoma. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC) and the BGCO for Falls Creek Youth Camp, contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield – 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156
Clayton Lee Conley was born September 27, 1945 to Mary Edna (Austin) and Harold Sylvester Conley in Mooreland, Oklahoma. He moved with his parents at the age of 5 from Buffalo, Oklahoma to Woodward. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1963. He completed several classes at OBU. Clayton married Linda K. Cantrell on May 27, 1963, he began working for Orie’s Grocery Store in Woodward when they were first married and became a very skilled butcher. He then worked in the furniture business and owned his own store for a few years. Clayton surrendered his life to ministry in 1967 and was a bi-vocational pastor at Morning Star Baptist Church in Waynoka, Oklahoma for 17 years. He later was a full time minister at First Baptist Church in Seiling, Oklahoma; Elm Street Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma; Carter Baptist Church in Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and Trinity Baptist Church in Enid, Oklahoma. He retired from the ministry in July of 2011. He moved to Dexter, Kansas in 2012. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Arkansas City, Kansas. Clayton loved to watch sports on television, he greatly enjoyed people and loved his family deeply, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren. Most of all he loved the Lord and always put Him first in his life.
He is survived by his wife Linda of the home; children: Joannie Reimer and husband George of Dexter, and Mark Conley of Dexter; grandchildren: Ryan Reimer and wife Samantha, Aaron Conley, and Jared Conley; great-grandchildren George Clayton Reimer and Gwendolyn Joannie Reimer; sister Vesta Webb of Duncan, Oklahoma; brother Earl Conley and wife Joyce of Oklahoma City. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Martha Gillilan.
