Barbara Orman Obituary

Barbara K. Orman, 80, of Arkansas City, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 11, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.  

Barbara Kay was born on November 27, 1938 in Arkansas City, the daughter of Kinney T. and Gladys Louise (Duncan) Krout. She graduated from Arkansas City High School the Class of 1956.  She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co from 1956 to 1961.  On June 19,1960, she was united in marriage to Larry A. Orman in Arkansas City.  From 1960-1977, she and her husband traveled all over with the military.  She worked in civil service while her husband was active.   After retirement in 1977, the couple settled back in Arkansas City.  She then worked as a church secretary and Brown’s Office Supply before starting her job in 1991 with Hawks Funeral Home.  She remained through ownership transitions and retired after 25 years in 2016 from Shelley Family Funeral Home.  

She was member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1254.  She was very active also helped with Bingo at the VFW.   She was also a huge Arkalalah supporter by being the head judge of the kiddie costume parade for many years. Her husband, Larry preceded her in death on December 15, 2003.  She loved her family the most along with sewing, bowling, fishing, camping, playing cards and casino trips. 

Her family includes: her daughter; Kim Walton and husband Glenn; her son Timothy Orman and wife, Lea Ann; her sister-in-law, JoRita Krout; her grandchildren, Kristen and Darrell Baker, Amy and Sean Hankins, Mandi and Chad Monroe, Tori and Dane DeWitt, Jordan Walton, Lachelle & Tim Porter, Lacinda and Tanner Johnson, Lashaina and Tristan Chalmers; her great-grandchildren: Clint Neal, Cody and Brittany Neal, Kyla Baker, Amanda and Nathan Kidd, Hope and Emma Hankins; Neila, Nathan and Logan Monroe; Taylor, Tagen and Tatyn Porter; Trevor and Lanna Johnson, Aliyah, Trooper, and Ledger Chalmers; her great-great grandchildren, Georgie, Cooper and Elizabeth Neal and her lifelong special friendship with Ruene Gage.   In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in law, Billy and Terry Krout, Dick Krout and Jimmie and Barbara Krout.    

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 15th at First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday evening from 6-8:00 P.M. at Shelley Family Funeral Home.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.  A memorial has been established in Barbara’s name for Presbyterian Manor.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
