Anita Montoya, 97, of Winfield passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.
Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 A.M. on April 24, 2019, at Holy Name Catholic Church of Winfield. The Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on April 23, 2019 at Holy Name Catholic Church with a family visitation starting at 6:00 P.M.
Anita was born on July 30, 1921 in Winfield, KS, the daughter of Pedro and Hesus Lopez Amador. She was educated in Winfield. On February 22, 1941 in Winfield, KS, she was united in marriage to Clemente L. Montoya. The couple made their home in Winfield and to this union 4 children were born, Clemente, Jr., Pete, Erlinda and Virginia. She worked for USD 465 in the food service department for over 20 years. Anita was known for her cinnamon rolls by all the children. To those that knew her, she was a giving person and enjoyed cooking, especially her tortillas. She was also talented in crocheting, sewing and cracking pecans. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church.
Her family includes: her husband of 78 years, Clem of the home; her children, Pete Montoya and Erlinda Montoya-Kiser of Winfield, her sisters, Natividad Ramirez and Mickey Madrigal; her grandchildren, Val and Henry Morrow, Lisa and Tony Darling, Angie and Jerry Byrd, Joe Kreie, and Kristin and Spencer McFarland, her 18 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Virginia and Clemente, Jr.; 2 grandchildren, Ric and Todd Montoya and 1 sister, Amelia Quinn.
